This mark is awarded to tourism businesses that adopt best management practices and meet specific criteria developed and/or endorsed by the Rainforest Alliance.

Travelife Gold Award

Secrets Maroma Beach is a proud recipient of the Travelife GOLD Certification for its dedication to environmental and socio-economic responsibility. Travelife is an international certification system promoting, managing, and monitoring sustainability within the tourism industry. The assessment criteria for certification includes supporting the local community and the minimization of waste, energy and water use through day-to-day practices.

MARTI- The MesoAmerican Reef Tourism Initiative

The goal of MARTI is to integrate sound natural resources management and sustainable practices into tourism development and operations at all scales in the MesoAmerican Reef region, thereby ensuring the region's economic and environmental prosperity.

Amigos de Sian Ka'an is dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainable development. This organization aims to conserve the biodiversity of the area by promoting sustainable socio-economic development of communities and influencing the culture and environmental policies based on science.

♻ 2017 Recycling Results

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun managed to recycle 79.3 tons of reusable materials. 

  • PET: 6.4814 tons recycled, equivalent to saving 12.9 tons of oil.
  • Aluminum: 2.3 tons recycled, equivalent to saving 32,531.8 kwh of electricity and 209,133 liters of water.
  • Cardboard: 11.4676 tons recycled, equivalent to avoiding logging 160.5 trees.
  • Paper: 79 tons recycled, this is the equivalent to avoiding the logging of 13.4 trees and 22,153 liters of water.
  • Hard plastic: 1.2 tons recycled, equivalent to saving of 48,816 liters of water.
  • Glass: 48 tons recycled, equivalent to saving of 6,540.92 liters of oil.
  • HDPE: 0.7 tons recycled, equivalent to saving 30,160 liters of water.
  • Organic waste: A total of 257.7 organic residues were recycled and used as livestock feed.

 

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun in its commitment with the constant support to the secluded mayan community El Naranjal, encouraged and implemented the exhibition of their habitants hand-made goods and products so that the employees could boost local economy through fair trade.

Additionally, Secrets Maroma Beach donated school supplies to the local children to improve education and learning conditions, and to ultimately decrease school desertion rates.
